MasterChef Nigeria has officially launched, marking a major milestone in Nigerian television and food culture. African media giant Primedia brought the show to the country. Now, passionate home cooks can compete for a life-changing prize of ₦73 million—and make history as Nigeria’s first MasterChef.
Entries are open until 27 February 2026. The show will air on DStv’s Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family. As part of the global MasterChef franchise, it joins over 70 countries that have adopted the format since 1990. Banijay Entertainment, known for Big Brother and Survivor, represents the series worldwide.
According to Guinness World Records, MasterChef is the most successful cookery show ever. It has produced more than 700 seasons and 16,000 episodes. Now, Nigeria will add its own vibrant chapter. Contestants will showcase both traditional and modern dishes, drawing from the nation’s rich culinary heritage.
Tamara van Eeckhoven, Managing Director at Primedia Africa, called the launch “a major television milestone.” She explained that MasterChef Nigeria will celebrate the country’s unique flavors while nurturing future culinary stars. Therefore, she urged all passionate home cooks to apply.
Kemi Omotosho, CEO of Africa Magic, added that the show reflects their commitment to premium local content. Specifically, it highlights Nigerian creativity for audiences across Africa and beyond. Meanwhile, Sarah Mottershead of Banijay Rights said Nigerian viewers are in for a treat. She noted that the format continues to grow globally through strong partnerships like the one with Primedia.
To enter, applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged 18 or older. They must hold a valid passport and must not have worked as professional chefs. The competition welcomes diverse backgrounds—but all contestants must share a deep love for cooking.
Throughout the season, they will face intense challenges. These will test originality, technique, flavor, and presentation. Judges—renowned Nigerian chefs to be announced soon—will evaluate every dish carefully. Some plates will impress; others will fall short. Week by week, the field will narrow.
Eventually, only one home cook will remain. That person will earn the title of MasterChef Nigeria and the ₦73 million prize. Their journey could launch a new career in the food industry.
In short, MasterChef Nigeria is more than a contest. It celebrates culture, sparks innovation, and empowers everyday cooks. For many, it may be the chance of a lifetime—to turn passion into purpose, one dish at a time.
