The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied claims that it is placing a levy on its members.
The party described the report as false and misleading. It urged members and the public to ignore it and continue supporting the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, reacted to a headline published by The Observer Times. The headline claimed the PDP asked members to contribute N10,000 each to fund party activities.

According to the PDP, the headline does not reflect what was actually said. Ememobong explained that while the interview was quoted correctly in the body of the report, the headline was sensational and misleading.
He said other credible media organisations reported the same interview accurately without exaggeration.

Clarifying the issue, Ememobong explained that the PDP supports voluntary contributions, not compulsory payments. He said the mention of N10,000 was only an example to show how small voluntary donations can add up when many people contribute.
He stressed that there is no fixed amount, no levy, and no mandatory contribution for any PDP member.
The party reaffirmed its belief in grassroots funding, where supporters give freely based on their capacity. It also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the PDP in ways they find suitable.
